Lazaron has been established
as a South African Biotechnology Company, focused on the discovery,
development and commercialization of regenerative cell and medicine
technologies. The company's initial primary business goal is
to establish the first human cord blood stem cell bank in Africa.
To this end the company has three technology platforms, which
are divisionalised as follows:
Lazaron believes that its technology
platforms established, together with leading South African medical
professionals and technology partners in association with well
respected researchers both locally and internationally, who
form the Scientific Advisory Committee, provides the company
with an advanced market position in South Africa.
Moreover,
Lazaron aims to expand its technology platforms through continued
research in collaboration with other international research
institutions, with the end result that the company aims to represent
a centre of African excellence in the field of applied regenerative
cell and medicine and technologies.
Lazaron has identified a need
for the creation of a cryogenic stem cell bank in South Africa,
which service might gradually be expanded to include a service
to other African and even European countries. The company's
main aim is therefore to establish this facility as soon as
possible.
ANIMAL BIO-CELL DIVISION
Through
the company's Animal Bio-cell Division, short to medium term
projects have already been identified, and are being further
researched and developed at Stellenbosch University in a research
program that ends 2005. It is envisaged that the outcome of
this research will inter alia enable Lazaron to offer regenerative
veterinary cell replacement therapy to the race horse industry
and more specifically aimed at tendon regeneration.
JOINT RESEARCH PARTNERS
Lazaron
is collaborating with researchers active in stem cell research
and with leading universities in this field. Joint research
efforts are focused amongst others on cardiovascular cell regeneration
as well as cartilage regeneration, where Lazaron will provide
its advanced expertise developing research protocols on animal
models through its Animal Bio-cell Division.
